Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
The last week has been all about the performing arts at Long Bay Primary. The Arts Festival and choir performance on Wednesday were an opportunity for our performers to shine.
Thank you to Lliam Carran for the inspirational idea, Lisa Leggett for liaising closely with the PTA, all of the teachers who spent hours with their students creating wonderful masterpieces and the PTA and parent helpers who made the Arts Festival such a success.
Our students were the real stars of the show. Between their work that was on display and performances it was a great evening. The opportunity to sample various food options from around the world added an extra dimension, as did the Board members enthusiastically cooking and selling sausages. It was the epitome of a team effort.
Then on Wednesday this week our choir performed with Glamorgan School in a joint performance. It is one thing to work with a group of students to mould them into a dynamic choir – quite another when the other half of the choir is located at another school. Kathryn Hohaia did an outstanding job working with our students and Glamorgan School to bring together a choir that did us proud. They displayed collaboration, confidence and co-ordination in a performance that gave real meaning to the saying “it sounds better together”.
There is no doubt that be it our own groups at school or combining with another school, when everyone works together with a common purpose to present live performances it produces wonderful memories.

With the new changes to the Mathematics and English curriculums there will be a focus on teacher professional learning in the Mathematics area in 2025. To that end the Ministry of Education has directed us to hold two teacher only days with a Mathematics focus during the year. We have co-ordinated these dates with Northcross Intermediate School to ensure that families with students at both schools have their children home together at the same time.
These two days will be Monday 31 March and Friday 30 May. As a result our school year in 2025 will end on Tuesday 16 December, rather than Wednesday 17 December. A full outline of all term dates and public holidays in 2025 can be viewed here.

We have adjusted the timing of our lunchtime break next year to ensure we are able to deliver one hour of reading, writing and mathematics and our inquiry based programmes. Lunch will commence at 12:45pm and end at 1:30pm.

As we come to the end of the school year, on behalf of the Long Bay Primary PTA we would like to thank all our supporters. And to all our sponsors: New World Long Bay, Harcourts – Susan Kinghorn, It’s My Party, Asphalt and Civil, Volans, Long Bay Desserts, Birds of a Feather, Mane by Stefany Hall
Minimane, Walls Group, Four Square Torbay, Kelly Club Long Bay, Vision Accounting Solutions, Heartland Chips, Whittakers, Beaufort and Co, Denham Bramwell Lawyers, Burger Burger Torbay, Long Bay Surf Club, Browns Bay Brewing Co, Torbay Service Station, Bloom, Dance Space, Northern Arena, Skin Check, DBS Dental, AJ Hackett, Parakai Springs, Inflatable World, Sals Pizza, Something & Social, Mama Loco, The Merchant, My Wonderland, Sky City Auckland, ECB Fire Station, Joes Garage Silverdale, Bounce, Black and Gold Barber Torbay and The Meat Room.
Without the generosity from these local businesses we would not have been able to have some of our events and would have not have had the success we are so lucky to have had.
Lastly to the members of the PTA who have dedicated their time and energy over the years, with their children moving on to intermediate we thank you for everything you have done to support our school.
Bring on the many fun events we have planned for 2025! Starting with the Family Picnic Evening on 21 February next year.
