Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
As children my brother and I always enjoyed ‘monarch butterfly season’ where swan plants would be grown, eggs laid, caterpillars morphed into chrysalis and then turned into butterflies and off they went. The process of change was fascinating.
Change is upon us at Long Bay Primary and we have already hit the ground running. With our new Maths – No Problem! books, modified room numbers, structured literacy in full force and single year levels of students it has been a busy week already. The students are happy, settled and already focused on friendships and academic life.
The teachers have done a magnificent job getting everything ready to begin the year and implement the long list of new things we are doing (with more to come). I would like to thank them for all they have done over the past few weeks to ensure our first days of school have gone incredibly smoothly.
Please take the opportunity to use the HERO app to make an appointment for one of the Meet the Teacher evenings next week. These are spread across two days to ensure our students spend as much time as possible at school and you still have the chance to meet with the teachers and discuss your children with them. 77% of our students have made appointments already. If you are unsure how to do this please check the information further on in the newsletter.
Just like early on in the life cycle of the monarch butterfly we are at the very start of the school year. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in 2025 and look forward to you coming on the journey with us.

Meet the Teacher Interviews – 12-13 February
|
Thank you to everyone who has already registered via HERO for the Meet the Teacher evenings. If you have not done so already please follow the instructions below. During your conversation teachers will be asking you the type of questions that we have listed here:
- What are your child’s strongest skills or talents?
- What does your child enjoy about school?
- What hobbies or activities does your child participate in outside of school?
- What are your hopes for your child this year?
- Are there any specific areas where you feel your child may need extra support?
- What can I do to best support your child’s learning in the classroom?
- Is there any information that would benefit me as their teacher?
This is an early opportunity for teachers to connect with families and students and ensure that they make an outstanding start to the school year. To secure your appointment please go to the HERO app and press on the School Bookings icon to reserve a time on Wednesday 12 or Thursday 13 February. Each 10 minute time slot is allocated to you and your child to meet with their teacher, discuss the children as individuals and give the teacher a window into them as learners. You will need the HERO app installed and be logged in using the email address you have supplied to the school to make a reservation. It is first served – please do not miss out.
