Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
Last weekend I held the recording device while my son interviewed my mum about arriving in New Zealand, why she left London to move here and how things have changed over the intervening years. This year Long Bay Primary School turns 46 years old. We have had the same logo since the school started, a similar version of the Long Bay College logo that is 50 years old this year. Being someone who is about the same age (or potentially slightly older) I know how things have changed over the same length of time.
That is a slightly long winded way of saying we have consulted with a wide range of members of our community and are pleased to announce that the Long Bay Primary logo and ‘brand’ is about to change. We have kept the essence of the original logo and have added some additional features to make it clear that we are close to the beach where the sun rises and the waves lap gently on the shore.
The key question you will be asking is will the uniform change? The answer is not at the moment. We are going to use the new logo and brand on our buildings, website and signage to begin with. Towards the end of the year we will review the school uniform. The existing uniform will continue to be used after any changes while we phase it out.
If you would like to see what our new logo looks like we will be unveiling it tonight during the Family Picnic. The weather is great and the students are excited about their evening back at school.
I am looking forward to reading what my son has deduced about the past from the interview with his nana. Things certainly have changed in the local area since the school was established and no doubt further change is coming. Thank you to everyone who was part of our focus group and consultation process around the logo. We are sure that you will be as impressed with the new look as we are.

A reminder that transmitting watches along with phones must be handed in to the school office on arrival and collected on departure each day. This is a government/Ministry of Education directive that we are ensuring we follow.

Ashley Reserve Path Construction
|
Earthworks have commenced on the construction of the final piece of the path to Ashley Reserve. Thanks to the PTA fundraising efforts we are able to connect this all weather path making it much easier to get to and from the reserve – especially in winter. Access to Ashley Reserve will still be available this afternoon and evening. Weather permitting the concrete will be poured tomorrow and the path will be ready to use from Monday 24 February.

|
Hockey – Years 1-6 This is played at the Harbour Hockey grounds in Albany on Monday afternoon/evenings. This is a great sport and it would be excellent to see some more of our students giving this a go. Any questions please let me know – nikkid@longbayprimary.ac.nz
|
Rippa Rugby There are two tournaments for rippa rugby – one in term 2 and one in term 3. These are played on school days and a bus will transport our students to and from the Windsor Park grounds in Mairangi Bay. There are separate girls and boys leagues and we would love to be able to enter at least one Year 3/4 and one Year 5/6 girls team into the competition.
This is a non-competitive tournament – no scores are kept – and it’s a great opportunity for students to try out this sport.
