Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
School report time was always fraught with mixed emotions and trepidation. Bringing home a piece of paper in an envelope, waiting for both parents to be home, the grand opening and then waiting for the outcome – all quite stressful.
Following our Education Review Office (ERO) visit at the start of the year we have been waiting for our report to arrive. It has, and can be found on the ERO Website. ERO visits schools every three years. They work through a school self review, check what is happening in the school, ask questions, and make sure schools are doing what they say they are doing.
The good news is that our report tells us exactly what we expected it to. Like everyone who gets a report the first thing you do is look for the things to improve, we were no different. The only change to my old school reports is these are the things we have identified ourselves and have plans in place to address.
- To work on how we teach the new curriculum to ensure there is consistency across the school
- To look at how we assess the students in light of the new curriculum
- To continue to work on what we teach as a framework across the school
- To increase attendance levels
The even better news is the long list of things that were identified as our strengths:
- Our students work in a positive and inclusive environment with an emphasis on their physical and emotional safety contributes to their sense of belonging to the school
- Students who need additional support benefit from systems that help ensure their needs are met helping to improve their learning outcomes
- Strategic and effective leadership drives improvement and sets high expectations for teaching and learning
- The school’s curriculum design provides for integrated learning opportunities
- Professional strengths and development needs are regularly identified and supported to meet the school’s teaching and learning goals and improved outcomes for our students
- A systematic approach to planning for sustained school improvement is in place that is informed by regular use of good quality evidence and evaluation
To put it in simple terms we are very happy with what came out of the envelope we took home and will continue to work hard to build on what we are doing while constantly seeking areas of improvement.
In our next newsletter we will outline how you can help us with attendance and what we will do to help you.
In case you were wondering how my technology detox day in the holidays went, the answer is not well. I will try again during the next holidays, always seeking improvement there as well.

Unfortunately the weather and number of public holidays during the holiday break conspired against us making progress on our front gate improvements. The contractors have been on site this week and are likely to make a start early next week. We have learnt that until there are spades in the ground not to count our chickens. As soon as we know when work will commence we will clearly communicate with you what is happening and when, along with our contingency plans for access. The gate is being replaced and the western white wall being removed to improve visibility when entering and leaving the school grounds.
