Kia ora Parents/Caregivers
Today feels like last Saturday night – there are so many things on that multitasking is essential. On Saturday it was the Warriors (on the big screen along with much pacing about and some mild panic), various other sports (on the second screen that I tried to pay attention to) and the phone to communicate with others about what was happening on the other two screens. So much for my digital detox plans….
Today we have three equally important things going on that all should be on the big screen. Road Safety Week wraps up and with the imminent return to higher speed limits in the local area we are reminding our students to be safe around the roads. I have advised them at the assembly this afternoon to make sure they wear a seatbelt, and they have my permission to tell you to stop if you are driving and using a phone, or slow down if you are speeding.
Pink Shirt Day is another major for us – raising awareness about bullying (in all possible forms) and raising money for the Mental Health Foundation at the same time. Thank you for your gold coin donations, resulting in $711.90 for the Mental Health Foundation. Today I have encouraged our students to do three things – speak up, stand together and stop bullying. You can play your part to help us by encouraging your children to talk to you if they are having issues – and then let us know as well. Our messages are simple – If someone says something you don’t like, tell them to “stop, I don’t like it”. Then tell an adult. If you see this happening to someone else. Tell them that is not OK and encourage them to tell an adult – or just go and tell that adult yourself. Most importantly we want to stop bullying – it is not OK. These days it can be face to face or online – it doesn’t matter where or how, it is not OK.
Finally this evening we have the postponed Light up the Playground. The weather is looking perfect and the opportunity to come to school in the dark and play on the playground is as popular as ever. Thanks in advance to the PTA and everyone who has worked so hard to put on this event.
Days like this are rewarding, slightly exhausting but ultimately fun. Unlike watching the Warriors at the moment – it is mostly exhausting.

Sports Buzz – Term 2, Week 3
|
Swimming Competitions Long Bay Primary students recently participated in the Northern Schools Interschool Swimming Competition at the National Aquatic Centre. This was a meet with five schools in attendance. Our students pushed themselves hard and came away with a well-deserved second place overall. Following this, a number of students also attended the North Shore Schools Swimming Championships. This is a huge event with27 schools attending and over 400 students competing. Once again, the Long Bay Primary students gave it their all and achieved an 11th place overall. Our students were nervous, excited, anxious and determined and displayed great resilience and sportsmanship. Well done to every one of them!
