Principal’s Chat

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers

The highlight of my parking career was at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. The Logan Campbell Centre hosted the Judo and I stood outside and showed people where to leave their cars while they went inside to watch the action. Ex All Black Steve McDowell was a commentator at the venue and telling him where to park each day was a highlight, as was watching Brent Cooper win a gold medal for New Zealand.

Speaking of traffic and parking I am asking for your help in Ralph Eagles Place. There have been changes to the speed limits around schools in Auckland and we are no different. Because of this Auckland Transport and New Zealand Police are working with schools in the area to keep our students safe. They have identified two aspects of the traffic outside our school that we all need to work on to make it safer for our community.

Please do not park or stop on yellow lines to collect your children. The yellow line areas are designed to allow the traffic to keep moving rather than stopping. We also ask that you only collect or drop off your children in our drop off zone or in a marked parking space. Collecting or dropping them off from a car in the roadway is dangerous.

When waiting in the line please place your car as far to the left as practical on the road. This will allow emergency services to access the school if necessary.

Our new gate is now in operation. It will be closed overnight and during times when there is heavy student movement (at the start and end of the school day). It is open the rest of the time. If the gate is closed and you need to enter to collect your child from the Sick Bay please press the button on the intercom system and someone will assist you.

Please have a safe (and dry) holiday break. If you are travelling be safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 14 July from 8.30am having safely arrived at school.

Speed Limit Changes

In conjunction with Long Bay College we have been working with AT for the past several months around the changes that are being made to the speed limits outside our schools.

The new times for the 30km/h speed limit are 8:00am to 9:30 am and 2:40pm to 4:00pm. The electronic signs as well as the fixed ones display the same speed limit.
For more information please click here.

School Gate Construction

The school gate is now operational. It will be closed overnight on weekdays and during weekends and school holidays. It will also be closed at the start and end of the day while students enter and leave the school (8:30 – 9:15am and 2:45 – 3:15pm).

Printing School Reports

A reminder that you can print your school reports directly out of Hero by following the instructions on page 8 and 9 of this document.

Attendance on School Reports

The attendance figures on the Term 2 reports are in half days rather than whole days. This is because there is a legal requirement for schools to be open a certain number of half days each year.

School Production – Help Wanted

Are you a whizz with a make-up brush? A face paint artist extraordinaire? If so, then your school needs you! We need people to help prepare the production cast before each performance – this will entail basic make-up for some, and face paint for others. The shows are scheduled for Wednesday 6 August and Thursday 7 August.

If you are able to help out, please email Nikki Douglas – nikkid@longbayprimary.ac.nz
