Principal’s Chat

Kia ora koutou Long Bay Whanāu

It has been so lovely to see students returning to school on their team days this week. A huge thank you to parents for letting us know via the survey whether your child/ren were returning to school on their set days or continuing to learn from home. We have been so proud of the children and the confidence they have shown skipping back in to school – they were clearly so pleased to get back in to see their friends and teacher.
A special thank you to our new entrant parents and children who had only been learning online and had not had the chance to come in to the school grounds before Thursday – it was so wonderful to meet you all and see the kids enjoying being in a classroom.

At this stage we are continuing with the return to school schedule that was emailed out to you all, with set days for teams. If the Alert Levels change we will review at that stage.

We have had so many things cancelled – in this newsletter please see a big thank you to our main school production cast who did continue to practise all through the lockdown in the hope we might be able to perform, and also a display of the artwork students created for the Kahui Ako Matariki Art festival which unfortunately was also cancelled. Thank you to all of these wonderful students for their creativity.

Because of the way we have structured the return to school we are able to still run the Fun Mud and Colour Run over a few days. Sadly, due to Alert Level restrictions at this stage we will not be able to have parents onsite to watch – so we will take lots of photos for the teachers to share.
It is a really fun event that we hope all the kids at school do take part in – if they are uncertain they can still participate and not get fully immersed in the muddiness of it all.
Please see more details in the sports section of this newsletter.

Finally a reminder to please download the new school app, and also find and return all the library books and home readers as soon as you can – thank you!

Linda

In-Zone Enrolments for 2022

If you have a younger sibling who is going to be turning 5 next year and you are wishing to enrol them at Long Bay Primary, can you please email the Office at enrolments@longbayprimary.ac.nz to make sure that we have the child’s information and birth date to help with our planning for 2022.

EzLunch/Pita Pit – Closed

The school has decided not to re-open EzLunch and Pita Pit for school lunches for the rest of the school year.  Because the school is not fully open to all students every day, we feel this is the best option moving forward for this year.

Sports Buzz – Term 4, Week 5

School Fun Run

Because of the way we have structured the return to school we are able to still run the Fun Mud and Colour Run over a few days. Sadly, due to Alert Level restrictions at this stage we will not be able to have parents on site to watch –so  we will take lots of photos for the teachers to share.

The School Fun Run will take place on the following dates:

Tuesday 30 November: Kowhai Rooms 3 and 5 will run
Wednesday 1 December: Totara and Rimu teams will run
Thursday 2 December: Kauri and Kowhai Rooms 1, 2 and 4 will run
Friday 3 December: Nikau and Manuka teams will run

All of the students at school are able to take part in the Fun Run whether they received sponsorship or not. For those who have been sponsored there will be a short time frame for collecting sponsorship and ordering your prize (between 30 November and 8 December).
The kids come to school in their usual school uniform then get changed before their run – they will definitely need to wear old shoes and clothes as they will get covered in mud and the coloured dye, and an old towel and a plastic bag for muddy clothes.

Home Learning – Congratulations for the fabulous work

Matariki Art

This fantastic Matariki Art was sadly unable to be displayed at the Kahui Ako Arts Festival earlier this year to celebrate Matariki. Congratulations to the students for their wonderfully creative work.
