Principal’s Chat

The most important part of a school is the people in it. If the last couple of years have shown us anything children can learn anywhere but it is the social aspects of being together with other people that make all the difference. The value of belonging to a community has never been as relevant and important as it is today. The PTA is an example of a group of people who have come together for a common purpose. Not only to raise money, but also to foster a sense of community. While it has been difficult over the last couple of years to achieve both of these objectives, the PTA has been unwavering in their support of the school and parent community. As they recruit for new members please take a moment to consider how you can get involved and help out.

The first PTA project of 2022 is Ice Block Day next Friday. Gratefully sponsored by Susan Kinghorn, however there was only one problem. Actually sourcing lemonade ice blocks. Who would have thought the supply shortage affecting a number of different areas would also have a significant impact on ice blocks? Thankfully with some creative problem solving and out of the box thinking (exactly the type of skills we are trying to instill in our students) we managed to contact Damien Rakich at Bidfood. Damien spent some time ringing around and bingo we are now in business.

Yesterday Unichem Browns Bay began complimentary RAT screening of our staff. They contacted all local schools with the offer, one that we willingly took up. Thanks to Christina Shin for her proactive approach, it provides us with yet another layer of protection against Covid-19 at Long Bay Primary.

The sense of community and looking out for other people is one of the biggest things I have noticed in the last three weeks. If Susan, Damien and Christina are any indication of the lengths people will go to to help our school it is a promising sign for the future. Be it to cool the kids down and give them something to look forward to, raise some funds to inject back into our programmes or keep our staff and students safe. Our school community is there with us and as a staff we are very grateful.

As we negotiate the next few weeks ahead we will continue with the measures we have taken to protect your children, keep them working hard, and most importantly look forward to coming to school. Thank you for your support, enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, ready to have some fun and continue on their learning journey.

What’s Been Happening

Room 10 Play Based Learning

Goal Setting Conferences – Wednesday 23 March

We value the partnership between home and school and look forward to the opportunity to share with you what your children have been doing at school. Even more valuable is to hear from you about your children, what makes them tick, and what you have discovered about how they learn over the last few months, while they worked with you at home. We will be holding our goal setting conferences on Wednesday 23 March starting from 1:10pm.

In order to have time to see all of our families, usual instruction finishes at 12.30pm on this day, so please arrange alternative care for your children from 12.30pm. If you cannot arrange alternative care do let the office know so we can plan supervision for them.

We do encourage all students to attend their learning conference and talk to the teacher with their parents. At this stage we anticipate these interviews will be held virtually. More information to follow shortly.

PTA News

The PTA team would like to welcome families back to school for 2022.

Our wonderful PTA are a group of parents that organise a range of fundraising events throughout the school year.  This fundraising provides extra resources for our kids and adds an extra bit of sparkle in the days during their time at Long Bay Primary.

For new families to our school, in previous years we have held events such as disco’s, light up the playground, ice block days and movies in the park to name a few.  We are in need this year of new families to join our team. If you would like to know more and/or want to meet parents within the school, we welcome you to join one of our meetings to see what we are about.

Our next meeting is on the 15th of March online. Please feel free to email us at  longbayprimarypta@gmail.com for any questions.

We look for to seeing and meeting you soon.

The Friendly PTA team

We would also like to thank Susan Kinghorn from Harcourts Browns Bay for sponsoring Ice Block day, we all appreciate your continued support.
