Flooding Update 2 – School will be open on Tuesday 31 January

Kia ora

After consultation with the Ministry of Education we can confirm that school will be open tomorrow Tuesday 31 January.

On Friday the school admin area was flooded. Luckily the main damage was to the floor coverings. Thanks to everyone who came to help out on Saturday morning, words cannot describe how grateful we are. The Hall will be used as our admin area, staffroom, sickbay and resource room until the damage is assessed, repaired and we return. The brand new carpet tiles that were laid last weekend only managed 6 days before coming up again. Our administration building has contractors already working in it to reinstate the building. We are not sure of the timeframe before we return at this stage..

No classrooms were affected in any way, we have had an electrician do a safety check that we passed and drinking water is safe.

We were very lucky that the damage was minimal and are aware there are other members of our community who were not so lucky. If you have been adversely affected by the flooding and your children are unable to come to school please make contact with the office at admin@longbayprimary.ac.nz We look forward to your family starting when you are able.

Long Bay College have delayed the opening of their school until later in the week due to the large number of out of zone students they have that travel along Glenvar Road.

Bayes Coachlines have advised us that the Okura Bus will have the normal pickup times, however they expect the bus will arrive later in the afternoon as the journey home will be longer than usual due to delays or detours around the top of Glenvar Road.

Should conditions or circumstances change we will keep you updated through all of our communication channels.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
