Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle Update – School Open Wednesday 15 February

Good Afternoon

Thank you for your understanding over the past two days. We are grateful that this time our local area seems to have escaped the worst of the weather. The school buildings have been checked and are sound. Our thoughts are with the people in other areas of New Zealand who did not fare as well as we did.

With the worst of the weather past and the Red warnings being lifted we will reopen school for onsite learning tomorrow, Wednesday 15 February. Classrooms will be open at 8:30am as usual. Having consulted with the Ministry of Education as well as our local Kāhui Ako schools we are confident that the staff and students will be safe not only at school but when travelling to and from our location.

Our ‘meet the teacher’ conferences will go ahead as planned tomorrow afternoon / evening. While I am acutely aware that we have just had two days away from school and we are asking your children to go home at an earlier time tomorrow, these conferences are a valuable part of establishing a firm home / school partnership. They will allow us to work with you throughout the year to ensure your children are able to make the most of their time at school.

If you have not yet made a time please click here to secure a booking with your teacher(s). A reminder that school will close at 12:30pm tomorrow to allow these conferences to take place. Bookings will close for the conferences at 4:00pm today to allow the teachers to prepare for the conferences tomorrow. We will provide supervision for all students who need it until the end of the school day tomorrow afternoon. If you would like to make use of this service please email admin@longbayprimary.ac.nz with the name and room number of your child(ren). School buses will run at the normal times and Kelly Club are available to supervise students before and after school as normal.

We look forward to seeing your children tomorrow morning ready to start the 2023 school year again, hopefully for the last time.

Ngā mihi | Kind regards
